Microchip Technology Receives Top Honors for Business Excellence

The Wall Street Journal, the Arizona Technology Council and the Phoenix Business Journal All Recognize Microchip Technology

CHANDLER, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, analog and Flash-IP solutions, today announced that Microchip and CEO Steve Sanghi won top honors from some of the most prestigious national and Arizona business organizations. Additionally, the Company received an award from a leading electronics-industry publication.

Microchip was named one of Electronic Design Magazine's 2010 "Top 50 Employers in Electronic Design." Top employers were selected by the editors of Electronic Design from a pool of 97 companies, based on financial and stock-price performance, employee growth, patents issued, R&D spending and the results of employee answers to the Magazine's reader survey.

In keeping with its guiding value that "Employees Are Our Greatest Strength," Microchip was selected as one of the Phoenix Business Journal's 2010 "Best Places to Work." For the fourth year in a row, the award places Microchip among the top-30 large companies (250+ employees) to work for in Arizona because of the way it creates an engaged and supportive workforce. Indeed, Microchip was the only major semiconductor company to avoid a layoff throughout the recession.

The Arizona Technology Council selected Microchip's president and CEO, Steve Sanghi, as the winner of its 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award. Sanghi was chosen for his numerous contributions to the state's technology community, including bringing FIRST Robotics competitions to the state, and for starting his own scholarship fund to help those studying science and technology.

The Wall Street Journal ranked Sanghi second among the top 28 long-serving CEOs of the S&P 500. CEOs were ranked according to how shareholder returns since going public compared to those of the remainder of the market, with Microchip's returns having increased 4,476% since the Company's IPO on March 19, 1993--nearly 10 times the change in the S&P 500, itself.
